What is StepSERVO™ closed loop stepper technology?

StepSERVO™ closed loop stepper technology starts with a traditional open loop step motor. To that we add a high resolution encoder and we control the system as a servo motor with space vector PID current control. The result is a motor that has more torque and better acceleration than the traditional step motors system, while running cooler and quieter as well. The closed loop performance also improves overall system accuracy because the motor does not stall. If the torque demand is greater than the motor can produce the controller produces a position error to alert the machine controller or operator. This is a benefit over open loop systems where the motor can stall and the controller is unaware. For more information on the benefits of StepSERVO™ closed loop technology download our white paper.

How is the IP65 rating achieved?

The IP65 rating on the TXM integrated motors is achieved in several ways. The stator laminations are sealed and gasket seals are inserted between all of the mechanical interfaces. The standard connectors utilized are water and dust-tight M12 connectors. Finally a shaft seal is added to the front shaft. The combination of these features creates a very reliable design that can withstand all sorts of water and dust in the environment.

What other features do these integrated motors have?

TXM StepSERVO™ motors include multiple control options from basic step (pulse) & direction control, to analog velocity or torque, streaming commands, and stored program execution. Most units come with 3 digital inputs, 1 analog input, and 1 digital output for interfacing to sensors, limit switches, PLCs and other I/O devices on the machine. TXM motors also support multiple standard fieldbus protocols including Modbus, CANopen and EtherNet/IP.

For what kinds of applications are these motors best suited?

The TXM integrated motors shine in applications with wet and/or dusty environments, such as splash zone applications with water or oil, as well as applications where dusts, powders, machining fines and other contaminants are abundant. Because of their ruggedized design, though, they are beneficial in clean environments as well. For example, M12 connectors are popular for use in many applications because of the wide variety of mating cables available and because of their easy, quick-disconnect design.
