Lower Pricing with the Introduction of Smaller Integrated NEMA 17 Steppers

Newly added to our ever-expanding product line, we are pleased to introduce 2 shorter stack lengths to our NEMA 17 integrated stepper motors. The shortest single-stack model is only 2.64” long (67mm) and the 2-stack version is 2.85” (72.5mm) in length. See the STM17 drive+motor series page for a complete list of these integrated motors. The STM17 integrates a size 17 step motor, microstepping drive and controller into a single device that offers savings on space, wiring and cost over conventional motor and drive solutions.

But that’s not all… New lower pricing on the previously released STM17 models will help reduce project costs! Prices on the STM17x-3xx models have been reduced by as much as 25%.

There are a few types of control options available to suit the application for which these are used.

The “S” models accept step and direction for speed control and positioning, analog input and joystick control for velocity mode applications, and streaming host commands using the SCL language to allow for motion control from a user-customized software application.

The “Q” model builds on the S model functionality by offering standalone programmable operation using the Q programming language. This versatile language includes high-level features such as complex motion, multi-tasking, conditional programming, math functions, register access, and more. Both S and Q models offer RS-232 or RS-485 communication. An optional 4000 count encoder, integrated into the motor housing, provides stall detection and/or stall prevention. This built-in encoder gives the motor the ability to perform “hard-stop homing” with the Q-programmable version, further eliminating wiring that would normally be required for a “home” sensor. Applied Motion’s proprietary stall prevention algorithm monitors rotor lag and automatically reduces speed or acceleration to avoid motor stalls, allowing 100% torque utilization.

The STM17 provides up to 68 oz-in of torque and can be powered from 12 to 48VDC. All STM models are CE certified and ROHS compliant. All STM models and compatible power supplies ship from stock.
